Spice Krewe originated in the Royster Bayou at the edge of Lick Creek in Memphis, TN; from many years of side yard crawfish boils and gathering of friends.
After attending numerous crawfish boils that seemed to always serve less than a hungry appetite’s worth of crawfish, a few friends teamed up in 2010 to do a crawfish boil in a side yard for a small group of friends. The boil was a big hit, and kept going. In the years following, the crowds grew and people made sure to attend the annual side yard event.
The Spice Krewe team wasn't born into spice royalty. We were just your average boil crew, boiling crawfish with whatever seasoning came in the mail. Year after year, it was the same old, same old. Until the disaster.
One fateful boil, the shipment arrives… incomplete. Panic sets in. The crawfish are waiting, the mouths are watering, and a crucial part of the seasoning is MIA. We could have folded. We could have blamed the supplier. But did we? No!
We aren't just any folks. We’re Memphis folks. We rolled up our sleeves, dug deep, and did what any self-respecting boil team would do: we improvised. We scrambled, we mixed, and we created a makeshift blend that… well, it wasn't half bad.
But here's the kicker: that "not half bad" moment sparked something. A realization. A fire. We realized we weren't content with just "good enough." we wanted exceptional. We wanted our own.
So, we dove headfirst into the rich tapestry of Cajun and Creole cuisine. We dissected recipes, we experimented, we toiled over countless test boils, all along the banks of Lick Creek. Frustration? Oh, we knew frustration. Missed batches? Absolutely. But we persevered. We learned from every mistake, every over-seasoned pot, every under-spiced tail.
And from that crucible of trial and error, Spice Krewe was born. Not just a spice blend, but a testament to the power of resilience and the pursuit of flavor.
